What a refreshing outlook. I think if more people would do stuff like this the number of patches made by people who aren't the original author would increase.

Maybe WordPress needs some way to mention contributors in the plugin definition. That'd be neat.

Well, they already thank the contributors in their release posts and whenever a patch is committed, they always say "props to nameofpatchcreator" so how much more love could they possibly give contributors?
