    Default BuddyPress Without MU?

Take this quote for what you will but I got this from Twitter and it was said during the BuddyPress presentation at WordCamp Denver.
afhill: coming in a few weeks: buddypress for a single wordpress install (don't need wordpressMU)! #wordcampdenver
    This has me pretty excited.

Thanks for that link. Loving the fact that BuddyPress is coming to single WordPress powered blogs. Looks like it won't be that hard, he's just waiting for the right time or site wide plugins in WPMU.

Okay, so inevitable question: What's going to be the practical application of BuddyPress for a single WP site? Or, at least, what are people imagining? I can't think of many blogs that I frequent that I really want to be a part of a social network...

Of course, I don't mean to say I don't think this should happen. This news totally rocks. I'm just curious what people are excited to use it for right now.

The main thing I've been seeing is that people want easy user profile pages. And in the early development stages, the terms most bandied aroudn was "like facebook, but for wordpress"

I donīt think that itīs about blogging. People want to build social networks on wordpress, because wordpress is so easy to use.
Thatīs where i blog (working on the live site)
Thatīs where i tweet (i post all kind of useless stuff)

The practical application is a lot more user interaction without the mess of user blogs. Probably easier to manage and with less hassle. Instead of having a site where people can only interact by way of voting on a poll or commenting, people can sign up, have profiles, do all sorts of crazy things and be connected. Not that you couldn't do that now, but it would be nice to have a constantly developed suite of plugins to rely on.

I can definitely see the benefits of using it on one of my sites. With thousands of members, it only makes sense to add new features that bring the community together. Using some of the features of BuddyPress, mixed in with WP and bbPress, could really help it grow.

I have no need for user blogs. Plus, MU is tough for the average user to set up. Taking away the MU-barrier will help BuddyPress become very popular very fast.

I'm wondering if theme authors such as yourself Justin will look into creating a BuddyPress powered website to power your community that surrounds the themes you develop?

Jeffro, that's kind of what I was hinting at. I don't want to give away too much yet about future plans, but I can say that I'm definitely leaning in that direction.
