Sorry for raising old topic, but hadn't got any advice on my questions in troubleshooting.
As I understand current situation BuddyPress for regular WP is toast?.. Seems like I won't get to run WPMU at new host.

Well, the codebases are merging, so when that happens Buddypress should run on WP, since WPMU will be built right in.
Dunno what your host is going to do about that, but there's a few out there who will have to figure out something or tick off a lot of clients.
Shoot - I forgot to answer that other thread... I know you said "new" host, but there is a cheap host that specializes in WP & WPMU and doesn;t break the bank. they'll even install it for you.
(not sure if I can mention it)
@andrea_r
Yeah, I remember merger reported (sorry, closed tab yesterday and was lazy to retype all of message so settled for short version :).
But as I understand that was more of intention announced? It doesn't seem to be coming in 2.9 and who knows when and what 3.0 will be... Since I am not even sure I want BuddyPress for my collaboration project I am trying to hoard details to make educated decision. :)
If you are talking about WPWebHost - they are my new host (or more like will be when I migrate). :) Except that I am getting hosted for free so I don't get to pick plan for MU.
@Martin
I read that topic yesterday and seems it is outdated and no longer reflects current situation. :( Last informative message there is how WP 2.8 and 2.9 turn everything upside down again.
By the end of the year is the milestone for 3.0.who knows when and what 3.0
Scott Clark (one of the authors of the Pods CMS plugin) has made BuddyPress compatible with standard WP.
Proof of concept:

He hasn't officially released the BP companion plugin yet though.
For updates, check his Twitter page:

This is pretty cool to see in action. Scott is way ahead of the curve on this one. Just like when Ron and Andrea got ahead of the curve of the MU code merge.
Looks like Scott's plugin won't be needed as BP 1.2 (coming in late January) will support standard WP!
