If this is their original WordPress installation, then they were already doing some funky stuff with their folder positions so perhaps they're intentionally making it seem less WP'ish for security reasons:

Not only that, buddypress add required javascripts to the head of the page. They are not there.

Like Ipstenu said, it's quite possible they tore everything down & rebuilt it. The comment you linked to was a year ago; plenty of sites change in that time. Even half my own client sites are drastically different than a year ago. I mean, it's not even using the theme he said it was for starters...

Sorry, I saw this site in fasebuddy showcase an I assumed they just changed design. Even if I had looked the source I wouldn't now what to look, just starting with wp.org anyway sorry all for wasting your time.
