    Default bbPress 1.0 now out

Sam Bauers has released bbPress 1.0 final.

There's a whole swathe of improvements. Some of the improvements from the RC are quite major, including a major revamp of the admin interface, support for autoloading of functions.php files and there's a few other things which I think weren't available in the RCs but I may have missed.

The most noticeable one I saw was the addition of a new default plugin called
"Hello Louie". Basically it's "Hello Dolly" but for bbPress. It's basically useless as with "Hello Dolly".

Looks like there's a new version of Kakumei in there. It looks a little different, but is essentially the same Kakumei theme as before, just with a few design tweaks I think.

    I've updated to 1.0 final.

Upgrade went smoothly, and everything looks and works great!

By the way, am I the only one that isn't crazy about the new Admin icons (Bee, Honey, Hive)? They're cute and all (and "bee"/bbPress - I get it), but they're not terribly functional.

(Or maybe it's just my engineer-wired brain?)

Where are these icons? I heard about them, I even saw screenshots of them but I have no idea where they are in the admin panel.

Go to your bbPress dashboard, and look at the main menu (on the left, below the "Dashboard" button).

The icon for "Forums" is a beehive.
The icon for "Topics" is a honeybee.
The icon for "Posts" is a honeycomb.

Ah, I see now. Yeah, that's weird. I wonder why they chose to do that?

For WordPress they did a good job of consulting the community about the changes and the results seems to be quite good. That beehive thing is weird.

I don't know why. They're completely unintuitive - especially for those who (like me) generally keep the menu minimized so that only the icons display.

I guess beehive has some vague login in that it's where everything happens. I would have intuitively guessed that the bees of the hive are the users though, but that isn't what it links to. And honeycomb doesn't mean anything to me.
