Still looking for a few plugins
Greets -
I needed to put my first forum on a WP site a few weeks ago so I jumped in with both feet and had a great time playing with bbPress. I then added an Adding a Forum page to my WP how-to site. Great stuff, and appears to be solid as a rock. Haven't had a glitch yet.
The down side is that apparently some recent upgrade has blown about a third of the plugins out of the water. I presume the bbPress people knew that it would, but efficiency and security come first, plugins second. It's up to the plugin authors to stay up to speed.
Here are the main categories I haven't found an answer for yet and the usual plugin recomendations:
Live Comment Preview — It puts the ‘Preview’ button on the page but otherwise it’s dead in its tracks. IE reported an "error on page" when used.
Post Notification — Notifies Admin when someone posts a comment. Dead.
After The Deadline — Spell-checker, doesn't work with the excellent BB WYSIWYG Editor.
Subscribe To Topic — Puts the little checkbox on the page but doesn’t do the notification part.
For some odd reason, that last one seems to be a tough nut to crack. There are actually two long techie threads on the bbPress site about it, and even though they offer the feature in their forum, they can't put it into plugin format.
So, any suggestions for fixes or alternates to the above?
Thanks much,
Doc

Those upgrades were not for security or efficiency. If you can achieve that functionality with bbPress 0.9 I'd just downgrade. Almost no one is doing bbPress development work right now as all plugins and themes will become obsolete once the new bbPress plugin is up and running. bbPress 0.9 is still supported I think and there's a bunch of people offering to do security patches when and where they pop up.

Ryan - Got it. I'd seen mention of the upcoming 'plugin' format but hadn't read any details. It makes sense the plugin developers would hold back until it's implemented. I'll give v0.9 a shot, and thanks for the info.

Hey Joe. You may want to give the following a read.

bbPress development will continue until a solid migration path from stand-alone to plugin can be made.
It's still sort of funny to see that plugins will be developed for a plugin, but that's how it will roll.
